The moment only happens once.

This is one of the few moments in your life that cannot be recreated. The surprise only happens once.

You will remember the feeling. You will not remember every detail. The exact expression on their face. The split second before they realize what is happening. The way your hands shook when you reached for the ring. A professional captures the part memory cannot hold.

You only get to plan this once. Choosing someone who knows the city, the timing, and how to keep you comfortable through the surprise is the difference between a memory and a photograph you will live with for the rest of your life.

You will feel comfortable. They will never see us.

The Proposal Studios combines acting-coach-trained guidance with cinematic photography so couples feel comfortable and look extraordinary.

Most proposal photographers focus on logistics. We focus on how you feel. Our founder spent over a decade as a professional actor, acting coach, and director, with a Steppenwolf Theatre Company credit and a Jeff Award for his craft. None of that matters for its own sake. What matters is what it taught us: how to help people relax, read emotion as it happens, and use small, gentle prompts that draw out real movement after the adrenaline of the surprise wears off.

You will not be posed. You will not be told to smile. You will not be asked to perform. We arrive early, position ourselves where your partner cannot see us, and capture the genuine surprise as it unfolds. After the yes, we use small natural prompts to help you stay present so the portraits feel like you, not a performance.

Luxury here means calm.

Premium proposal photography is not about making the moment more complicated. It is about making it feel effortless. You get a clear plan, discreet execution, and photographs with real emotional weight.

Every gallery is hand-edited image by image. We never batch-process, never outsource, never run your photos through AI software. We treat each frame as its own decision, which is why our turnaround is days rather than hours. The result is a gallery that looks cinematic without ever making the experience feel staged.

Out-of-Town Proposal

My brother, who lives in Oakland, gave me the daunting task of finding the perfect photographer to capture his surprise marriage proposal while he was visiting Chicago. They helped us through every step of the process and with logistics. The pricing was straightforward and they made my brother and his fiance so comfortable at the session that they commented that they had never had so much fun taking pics.

Camera-Shy Couple

His warm, engaging, energetic personality somehow magically allows his subjects to forget he is there at all. They are free to be themselves, to have their authentic emotions captured as if they are just alone with the person they love. His photographs are not just pictures, but stunning pieces of art.

Discreet Coverage

Jeremy was so easy to work with and even helped me plan my proposal. He played a pivotal role in pretending to be a random photographer on the street before snapping into action when I got on one knee. 10/10.

Planning a Chicago Proposal From Out of Town?

You don't have to know the city. We do.

A meaningful share of the proposals we photograph each year are planned by someone flying in from New York, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, South Florida, Louisville, or somewhere else entirely. You shouldn't have to figure out which Chicago location will be quiet on a Wednesday at 6 PM, where the light lands at golden hour in May, or what the permit reality looks like at any given park.

We handle the scouting, the timing, the weather backup, and the day-of logistics. You show up, propose, and find a city already arranged around the moment. If you want a planning call before you book, just say so in your inquiry and we will get on a video call together to walk through location options before you commit.

Milton Lee Olive Park
Skyline and lakefront views without the Navy Pier crowds. One of Chicago's most stunning and underused proposal spots.
Adler Planetarium
Panoramic skyline views across the harbor. Iconic, cinematic, and deeply Chicago.
Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool
A hidden oasis in Lincoln Park with winding stone paths and lush greenery. Private and peaceful.
Chicago Riverwalk
River views, city architecture, golden hour light. Walkable and romantic.
Garden of the Phoenix
A Japanese garden in Jackson Park with wooden bridges and seasonal cherry blossoms. Serene and beautiful.
Lincoln Park Conservatory
Lush indoor gardens year-round. Perfect for colder months or couples who love nature without weather risk.

Have a different spot in mind? A favorite restaurant, a meaningful park bench, a rooftop only you know about? Frequently Asked Questions

The goal is simple. You feel prepared. They stay surprised. The photographs still feel like you.

How do you keep the proposal a surprise?

We help you build a believable plan before the day arrives. That includes where to walk, where we will be hidden, and the signal that lets us know you are in position. We use long lenses, position ourselves where your partner cannot see us, and time our presence so the surprise is preserved. By the time you arrive, you are not improvising.

Will my partner know the photographer is there?

No. Discretion is central to everything we do. We work solo or as a two-photographer team for The Cinematic, but never with visible lighting rigs or production crew. We blend into the surroundings and stay completely hidden until after the ring is on. The reveal is part of the magic.

What if I feel awkward in front of the camera?

That is exactly why our founder's theater background matters. A decade as an actor, acting coach, and director taught us how to help people relax quickly. We do not pose you. We do not bark instructions. We use small natural prompts that draw out real movement and connection. You will forget the camera exists, and your authentic selves show up instead of a stiff version of yourselves.

Do you hand-edit every photo or use AI?

Every single image is hand-edited by Jeremy, frame by frame. We never batch-process, never outsource, and never run your photos through AI software. That is why our turnaround is days rather than hours. The result is a cinematic, true-color finish that volume-processed galleries cannot match.

Will the same photographer plan, shoot, and edit our session?

Yes. The person you speak with on the planning call is the same person who will be discreetly capturing your proposal and hand-editing every frame of your gallery. There is no studio manager routing your inquiry to a different shooter. For The Cinematic, Jeremy is joined by one of our senior associates for the dual-angle coverage, but Jeremy leads creatively and edits everything himself.

When does The Cinematic make sense?

The Cinematic is for proposals that deserve a larger visual treatment. A proposal happens in a fraction of a second and there are no do-overs. Two simultaneous angles means certainty: if your partner turns their head unexpectedly or a stranger steps into the frame from one angle, the defining moment is still captured cleanly from the other. It is also ideal for premium venues, multi-location plans, and high-design proposals where the moment deserves more than one perspective.

How far in advance should I book my proposal session?

Three to six weeks is ideal. That gives us time for a proper planning call, location scouting, and any logistics. But if you are on a tighter timeline, reach out anyway. We regularly accommodate proposals booked within a week or two.

Is it too late to book a last-minute proposal?

Probably not. We have photographed proposals booked the day before. If the schedule is open and the weather cooperates, we can move fast. There is no minimum lead time. Reach out with your date and we will tell you straight away if we can make it work. If we are unavailable, we will point you toward a trusted colleague so you are never left without options.

What happens if it rains?

During our planning call, we always establish a backup plan. Whether that is an indoor alternative, a covered location, or rescheduling to the next clear day, you will know exactly what to do before the morning arrives. Chicago weather is unpredictable, but your proposal does not have to be. Read our full rainy day playbook.

Why hire a professional rather than asking a friend?

A few reasons. Phone cameras struggle in low light, especially golden hour and indoor settings. A friend lingering nearby with a phone is also one of the most common ways the surprise gets blown. A professional disappears completely until the ring is on, captures the moment cleanly with the right equipment, and continues as a portrait photographer the second you signal it is safe. The photographs from the moment itself can never be retaken. Most couples decide that is worth the investment.

How soon will we receive our photos?

You will receive hand-edited highlights within 48 hours, perfect for sharing with family and posting online. Your full gallery is delivered within 5 to 7 days. Every image is individually edited by hand. Rush delivery of the full gallery within 72 hours is available for $225. The Cinematic includes 48-hour highlights and a faster final turnaround as part of the collection.

Do we need a photography permit?

Some Chicago locations require permits for professional photography, and requirements vary by spot and season. We will let you know during our planning call whether your chosen location needs one and point you in the right direction. No surprises on your big day.

What is the difference between a proposal session and an engagement session?

A proposal session captures the surprise moment and the unscripted emotions that follow. An engagement session is a planned, styled portrait shoot celebrating your relationship, typically photographed after the proposal. Many of our couples book both, sometimes months apart, to document the full chapter.

Can we hire you for our wedding as well?

Absolutely. The Proposal Studios is the sister brand of Jeremy Glickstein Photography, an award-winning Chicago wedding photography studio with 151+ five-star Google reviews and Best of Zola recognition for 2025 and 2026. Many of our proposal couples continue with us for engagement sessions and wedding day coverage. Proposal clients receive an exclusive credit toward wedding photography. Same creative vision, same hand-edited care, from the first surprise to the last dance.
